The Health Unit provides parenting information and support through drop-ins, workshops and the Nobody’s Perfect Parenting program. See the calendar at the bottom of this page for upcoming scheduled events.

Attend this FREE workshop to learn more about:

  • why babies cry
  • how to calm and soothe your crying baby and
  • tips for taking care of yourself when your baby cries.

Baby and Me

Baby and Me is a baby group provided in partnership with Jubilee Place, a community house that provides support to families who are pregnant or have young children. Come with your baby (0-12 months) to:

  • play and meet other parents
  • talk with a Public Health Nurse to ask questions and gain information
  • have your baby’s weight and development checked by a Public Health Nurse.

No appointment is needed. Transportation is available and can be arranged by calling Jubilee Place at 613-732-8434.

  • Every Monday, 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.

 

Jubilee Prenatal Classes

A Public Health Nurse provides prenatal education in 5 to 6 weekday sessions. Lunch and transportation are provided.

Weekday Series (Mondays, from  10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) at Jubilee Place (1144 Lea Street, Pembroke, ON)

Nobody’s Perfect is a facilitated parenting program for parents of children from birth to age five. The program is designed to strengthen positive parenting skills for parents who are young, single, socially or geographically isolated, or who have low income or limited formal education offered in communities.

This FREE program is delivered over six two-hour sessions and childcare as well as snacks are provided. During the program, you will be able to:

  • meet with other parents of young children
  • share questions, concerns and ideas about being a parent
  • learn about child development, safety, health and behaviour
  • discuss real-life parenting situations
  • work together with the support of a trained Nobody’s Perfect facilitator and
  • discover positive ways of parenting.

Come to the Under One Club with your baby (0-12 months) to play and meet other parents. A Public Health Nurse is available for questions about infant feeding, parenting and much more.  A scale is available to weigh your baby and parenting resources are also available. No appointment is necessary.

  • Every Tuesday, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Deep River **NEW** (EarlyON Centre, St-Mary’s Separated School, 33110 D HWY 17 E)

  • Tuesdays 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Spend one-on-one time with a Public Health Nurse and get support as well as answers to your questions about feeding, sleeping, crying and other parenting inquiries. No appointment needed, open to families with children age zero to six.

When Sprouting Speech is offered at Parent Child Drop-in, a Speech Language Pathologist can assess your child’s speech and language skills and discuss any concerns you have. For more information visit http://sproutingspeech.on.ca/.
