Food Handler Training

RCDHU is offering in-house food handling training courses with COVID-19 restrictions, see below.

Food Handler Certification is offered by organizations recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. There is usually a cost for these courses.

The government of Ontario now requires there to be a certified food handler on site at all inspected food premises while open to the public. Renfrew County and District Health Unit public health inspectors provide free one-day training in safe food handling practices. Anyone can attend. The training includes laws, causes of food poisoning, and how to store, prepare and serve food that is safe to eat.

Participants must pass an exam to qualify for Provincial Food Handler Certification. This certificate remains in effect for five years from the date of the exam.
