Sexual health services are provided by a Registered Nurse. Services include:
- testing for some blood-borne and sexually transmitted infections (STBBIs), specifically chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C
- treatment for some STBBIs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis)
- lower cost birth control for eligible individuals who already have a prescription
- free condoms and dental dams
- pregnancy testing
- counselling about relationships and sexual decision-making
STI Testing
To get tested for STIs, call your family physician first. If you do not have a family physician or nurse practitioner or cannot access your them, you can:
- Visit our walk-in Sexual Health Clinic to see a Sexual health nurse, every Wednesday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at our office at 141 Lake Street in Pembroke.
- Call us to make an appointment outside that time at 613-732-3629 ext. 977 and leave a message, or email sexualhealth@rcdhu.com.
- Call the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RCVTAC) at 1-844-727-6404 to speak with a doctor and get tested. For more information, visit https://rcvtac.ca/
- Visit https://getakit.ca/. GetaKit offers an online assessment for access to free lab-based testing for STIs. For most orders, your “kit” will be digitally delivered by fax or PDF to the Renfrew County lab of your choice.
Hormonal Contraceptives
RCDHU may be able to help with the cost of your birth control by providing you with a coupon for your pharmacy.
Contraceptives include:
- oral contraceptive pill
- contraceptive patch
- vaginal ring
- emergency contraception (morning after pill)
- injectable contraception
- intrauterine contraception
- contraceptive implant
