December 20, 2023 – Local Health Units Join Voices to Remind you to Protect Yourself and Others from Respiratory Illnesses this Holiday Season

December 20, 2023 ‐ This time of year is well known for holiday parties and gatherings to celebrate the season. These gatherings are important to foster a sense of belonging, improve our mental health and bring our community closer. Respiratory viruses can spread easily when people gather (especially over holidays and in winter months). Respiratory illnesses can have a significant impact on overall well-being. We urge individuals and communities to consider ways to reduce the spread of respiratory illness.

December 15, 2023 – RCDHU Urges Residents to Take Precautions Against Respiratory Illness this Holiday Season

December 15, 2023 ‐ As the holiday season approaches and holiday gatherings increase, Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is alerting residents that respiratory viruses like the flu, RSV, and COVID-19 continue to circulate at high levels in our community. RCDHU urges residents to take precautions to reduce the spread of illness and protect those who are at higher risk in our communities, including older adults, young children, and those with certain medical conditions.

October 19, 2023 – RCDHU COVID-19 and Flu Vaccine Clinic Update – Appointment Booking Required

October 19, 2023 ‐ Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is announcing changes to their COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinics. Starting October 20th, COVID-19 vaccinations will now be offered by appointment only.

October 13, 2023 – Overdose Alert for Renfrew County and District

October 13, 2023 ‐ Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU), County of Renfrew Paramedic Service and the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are warning residents about an increase in overdose calls and suspected overdose-related deaths in the Pembroke catchment area. " We have noticed a marked increase in overdoses in the Pembroke area since the end of September. It has been noticed by the paramedics and our partners with OPP and Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH)," says Acting Commander Steve Osipenko.

October 10, 2023 – RCDHU Fall COVID-19 and Flu Vaccine Program Update

October 10, 2023 ‐ Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) is pleased to offer COVID-19 and flu community immunization clinics this fall.

July 5, 2023 – Heat Warning Issued by Environment Canada

July 5, 2023 ‐ A multi-day heat warning has been issued for Renfrew County and District, with daytime temperatures reaching 29 to 33 degrees Celsius and humidex values of 37 to 42 degrees Celsius. Overnight lows of 17 to 22 degrees Celsius.

June 22, 2023 – Blue-Green Algae Bloom Found – Dempseys Lake, Greater Madawaska Twp

June 22, 2023 ‐ The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) has confirmed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom on and around the shore of Dempseys Lake. Blue-green algae blooms are a natural seasonal phenomenon that may appear in lakes, rivers, and ponds. Dense blue-green algal blooms can make the water look like a bluish-green pea soup or a shiny paint slick. They have the potential to produce toxins that are harmful to people and animals. Direct contact with the toxin can cause skin irritation and, if ingested, it can result in vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

June 13, 2023 – RCDHU Renfrew Area Services – Temporary Relocation

June 13, 2023 ‐ Public access to the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) Renfrew Office, at 450 O’Brien Road, will no longer be available as of June 22, 2023. As of today, the Renfrew area services are temporarily relocated as follows:

June 05, 2023 – Special Air Quality Statement

June 5, 2023 ‐ A special air quality statement has been issued for Renfrew County and District by Environment Canada. Smoke plumes from local forest fires as well as forest fires in Quebec have resulted in reduced visibility and deteriorating air quality. Renfrew County and District Health Unit reminds residents that those at greater risk of health related problems when exposed to wildfire smoke include older adults, pregnant people, infants and young children, people who work outdoors, people involved in strenuous outdoor exercise, and people with existing illness or chronic health conditions.

June 2, 2023 – Overdose Alert for Renfrew County and District

June 2, 2023 ‐ Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) and the County of Renfrew Paramedic Service are alerting residents about an increase in overdoses across Renfrew County and District (RCD).
