How to sample your well for bacteria • Follow steps 1 - 6

1.

Sample must be collected in a correct water sampling bottle available at any health unit office. Do NOT rinse out the bottle.

2.

Remove all filters or aerators from the faucet. Clean the end of the faucet with a cotton swab dipped in bleach solution. removing filter

3.

Let the cold water run for 2 - 3 minutes prior to taking your sample.

4.

Fill the bottle to the fill line directly from the tap without changing the flow of water or contaminating the lid or bottle. Replace the cap tightly. careful with the cap

5.

Complete the form that came with the bottle and keep the sample cold.

6.

Return the filled water bottle to the health unit as soon as possible for testing at the public health lab in  Ottawa.
