| How
to sample your well for bacteria • Follow steps 1 - 6 |
1.
Sample
must be collected in a correct water sampling bottle available at any
health unit office. Do NOT rinse out the bottle.
2.
Remove
all filters or aerators from the faucet. Clean the end of the faucet
with a cotton swab dipped in bleach solution. |
3.
Let
the cold water run for 2 - 3 minutes prior to taking your
sample.
4.
Fill
the bottle to the fill line directly from the tap without changing the
flow of water or contaminating the lid or bottle. Replace the cap
tightly. |
5.
Complete
the form that came with the bottle and keep the sample cold.
6.
Return
the filled water bottle to the health
unit as soon as possible for testing at the public
health lab in Ottawa.
