Health Unit services that
promote Healthy Eating include . . .
1.
Consumer Advice - call the Health Info Line (613) 735-8666 or
1-800-267-1097 for advice about choosing healthy foods, and meeting
nutritional requirements. Also, check out the Healthy
Eating fact sheets, pamphlets and recommended links in the Health
Info section of this website.
2.
Consultations - offered to food service operators, educators
and health professionals to assist in development and/or selection of
healthy menus/recipes, curriculum, lesson plans, teaching aids,
patient education materials.
3.
Event Organizing - together with our community partners, we
work to organize events such as health fairs.
4.
Cooking/Food Demonstrations - offered to community groups and
delivered by Certified Community Food Advisors.
5.
Workshops and presentations - covering the latest nutrition and
healthy eating info and tips. Offered to staff of day care
facilities, seniors' organizations, health and social service
organizations, recreation departments and to the general public.
6.
Nutritious Food Basket Survey - annual survey of the cost of a
nutritious food basket in local grocery stores. For the latest

in the Resources section of this website.
7.
Food Security Initiatives - The Health Unit supports a variety
of food security initiatives aimed at ensuring access to food for
everyone in our community. See the pamphlet "Food
for All" for more information.
8.
Media Promotions - Healthy eating information is presented on a
regular basis through the Health Unit's newspaper column "Health
for All", media interviews, feature articles and campaigns
such as Nutrition Month.
